Dentistry

The dental department at Prachin Healthcare is equipped with advanced dental chair, Radio Visio Graph (RVG), Dentascan for ease of diagnosis and treatment. The dental preventive and curative design includes:

Dental implants

A dental implant is a root device usually made of titanium. It is used to support restorations that resemble a tooth. Dental implants are used to support various dental prostheses like crowns, bridges or dentures.

Dental bridge and crowns

A dental crown is a type of dental restoration which encircles a tooth or dental implant. They are generally used when a large cavity threatens the health of a tooth. On the other hand, dental bridges are either screw retained or cemented. Screw retained bridges allow removal if required while cemented bridges cannot be removed.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is concerned with the study and treatment of malocclusions which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationship or both. It is carried out for aesthetic reasons with regard to improving the general appearance of the patients teeth.

Peridontics

The supporting tissues of teeth which include the gingival, alveolar bone, cementum and the periodontal ligament are known as the periodontium. Peridontics is the specialty of dentistry which studies and treats these supporting structures for diseases and conditions that affect them.

Restorative treatment

Structural loss of tooth results from caries, external trauma or intentionally while improving tooth aesthetics. Dental restoration is used to restore the function, integrity and morphology of a missing tooth structure.

Bleaching

Dental bleaching, also known as tooth whitening and swabbing is a common procedure of restoring natural tooth color. The various methods available are brushing, bleaching strips, bleaching pen, bleaching gel, laser bleaching, natural bleaching and swabbing. The methods involve carbamide peroxide which penetrates the porosities in the rod like crystal structure of the enamel and bleaches the stain deposits in the dentin.

Tooth coloured filling

Earlier, the teeth were filled with a mixture of different metals. However, with recent advances in dental technology, more natural and metal-free fillings are being preferred. Tooth-like materials such as composite resins and porcelains are preferred by dentists which are both safe and predictable. They look and react more like a natural tooth.

FAQ's

Question: How does Gum disease get started?

Reply: Gum disease begins when plaque adheres at and below the visible edge of your gums. If plaque is not removed every day by brushing and flossing, it hardens into tartar (also called calculus). Tartar promotes a bacterial infection at the point of attachment. In these early stages, gum disease is called gingivitis. Your gums may be a bit red, but you may not notice anything. As gingivitis gets more serious, tiny pockets of infection form. Your gums may be puffy and may bleed a little when you brush, but it is not painful. Over time, the infection destroys the gum tissue. Eventually, you may be at risk of losing one or more teeth.

Question: How can I prevent Gum disease?

Reply: Prevention is the most important factor in the fight against gum disease. It is essential to keep your teeth and gums clean. Brush your teeth properly at least twice a day and floss at least once every 24 hours. Using proper brushing and flossing techniques is equally important. Be sure to see your dentist regularly for professional cleaning and dental exams, so that he or she can detect any early signs of gum disease, and provide appropriate treatment.

Question: How can I tell if I am brushing properly?

Reply: Brush your teeth gently, paying special attention to the areas where your teeth and gums meet. Clean every surface of every tooth. Use the tip of your brush to clean behind your upper and lower front teeth.
Flossing: Take a piece of floss about 18 inches long and wrap it around your middle fingers. Using a clean section of floss each time, wrap the floss into a C shape around a tooth. Wipe it over the tooth, from base to tip, a couple of times. Repeat on each tooth.

Question: What causes tooth decay?

Reply: Decay occurs when plaque — the sticky substance that forms on teeth — combines with the sugars and/or starches of the food that we eat. This combination produces acids that attack tooth enamel. The best way to prevent tooth decay is by brushing twice a day and flossing daily. Eating healthy foods and avoiding snacks and drinks that are high in sugar are also ways to prevent decay.

Question: What is tooth sensitivity?

Reply: Tooth sensitivity is a common problem that affects millions of people. Basically, tooth sensitivity means experiencing pain or discomfort to your teeth from sweets, cold air, hot drinks, cold drinks or ice cream. Some people with sensitive teeth even experience discomfort from brushing and flossing. The good news is that sensitive teeth can be treated.
