FAQ's

Question: Which specialist should I see if I have urinary tract infection?

Reply: You should see an urologist. A diagnosis of UTI is often made during a routine urine examination ordered by a physician. Fortunately most of the UTIs respond to antibiotics prescribed at a level of primary care. However recurrent UTIs warrant specialist care;your physician or gynecologist or your child’s paediatrician may refer you to a urologist if indicated.

Question: Why is UTI more common in women than men?

Reply: It is recommended that all children have their vision checked by their pediatrician, family physician or ophthalmologist (medical eye doctor) atTransfer of infection along the shorter female urethra is easier, while the longer male urethra protects against the transfer of bacteria to the bladder. Also, the prostatic fluid has antibacterial action.

Question: Does urine contain infectious organisms?

Reply: Urine is normally sterile.

Question: Is UTI dangerous?

Reply: Repeated UTI can damage the kidney and may lead to kidney failure.

Question: What is a kidney stone?

Reply: Kidney stones are the formation of crystalline structures in the urinary tract (which includes the kidneys, ureters, and bladder). These stones can cause pain, infection, and kidney damage. Stones can be small, from 1 mm to very large, filling up an entire kidney.

Question: What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Reply: Erectile dysfunction (previously called impotence) is the inability to get or maintain an erection that is sufficient to ensure satisfactory sex for both partners.
